Owning a home is both fun and frustrating. There’s always something to clean, never enough time to make minor repairs, and then of course there are huge home remodeling projects you want to get done. When we talk to clients at Mission West Kitchen & Bath, one of the questions they often have is whether they should tackle their projects one at a time or just it all done at once.
The truth is that there are pros and cons to both options. We can help you find the perfect kitchen faucets and offer advice on the right countertops for your home, but we can’t tell you what the best schedule is for remodeling your home. That said, here are a few things you may want to consider as you decide what path to follow.
Deciding which room to remodel first
If you’re going to do one room at a time, then you’ll need to consider which room should be done first. You’ll need to weight issues like which room is most in need of a renovation, with issues like which room will best make use of your current budget. If you have several rooms to remodel and they’re all adjacent to each other, then it makes sense to remodel them together if your budget allows you to do so.
Remodeling numerous rooms at once lets you get the mess out of the way all at once
A professional remodeling contractor is going to take care to ensure that your home is as clean as it can be but remodeling does create dust and debris. They will use tools and methods that are designed to keep the air quality high, but there’s nothing they can do to prevent issues all together. This is why you may want to get it all done at once.
If you have your kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room all updated at once, then once it’s completed you’ll be rid of the dust and the mess.
Once you have a team booked it may be easier to get it all done at once
You’re likely going to need to book numerous professionals to get any major remodeling done. This includes plumbers, carpenters, etc. Having them come out once to do several rooms can be much more affordable – and easier – than having them return numerous times to take care of numerous remodeling projects.
Can you feasibly handle all the changes at once?
One of the main issues to consider is whether you can actually handle such big changes at once. Yes, this does require you to carefully consider your budget but money isn’t the only concern. You also want to think about how much your life will be disrupted. For example, a home with several small children may not be a home that’s a good candidate for numerous rooms being remodeled at once.
