When you decide to redo your kitchen and / or your bathroom, you’re taking on a significant undertaking. If you’re like most people, you likely have a lot of questions. Not only do you need to find the best kitchen and bathroom materials, you need to find the right designs, plan your home’s makeover – and those are just the first steps.
At Mission West Kitchen and Bath, we understand how many different facets there are to redecorating a home. While we’re here to provide you with quality plumbing fixtures, cabinets, and much more, we can also help you make informed choice for other aspects of your home. Regardless of the style or color you’re adding to your walls, here are some answers to the most commonly asked questions about painting.
No matter what room you’re painting, you want a quality paint. You also want a paint that matches your style, whether matte, glossy or in-between. When it comes to your kitchen or bathroom, you also need to consider mildew and mold. These are rooms that tend to have more moisture and you’re going to want to choose a paint that’s specifically made to be mildew and mold resistant.
There’s a lot to love about a home that’s designed with an open concept. Unfortunately, there can be downsides too. For example, how do you paint one room a different color if you can see them all from each room? The answer is that you can use different colors – as long as you stay within the same color family.
The main thing is to make sure that you’re using a roller that works with the type of paint you’re using. You’ll find that some paint brands suggest roller types and sizes to help their paint go on smoothly and to end up with the right texture. If you use a roller that’s too big, then you could end up with a heavy texture on the finished product. Higher quality brushes are more likely to leave a good finish on the wall compared to cheaper brushes.
We know you don’t want to hear it, but the truth is that painting is not something you want to cut corners on. You want to use a quality paint and you want quality materials to get it on. However, using a lower quality ceiling paint is fine for most people. If you choose to paint several rooms at once, you can also save on the materials needed to clean up and prep.
At Mission West Kitchen and Bath, our specialty isn’t paint. That said, we do know a thing or two about creating beautiful kitchens and bathrooms. If you want to know more about your options, give us a call at 626-799-3503 or feel free to stop by our showroom.
The corners of your kitchen can be one of the hardest areas to ensure you’re taking advantage of. If you’re currently using this space to store small appliances you rarely use, or kitchen tools you have no spot for, then you’re likely wasting this space.
For many people, this space isn’t utilized because it’s hard to get to and is often out of reach. The reality is that this space doesn’t have to be wasted – it’s all about finding the right way to make it work. Read on to learn more about the options and then reach out to Mission West Kitchen and Bath at 626-799-3503 for additional help.
Instead of installing small shelves in the corner, consider angled corner upper kitchen cabinets. This is a great way to get some extra storage in a space that would otherwise be lost. If you want to dress them up, add glass doors so you can showcase items inside them. For example, grab up your favorite teacups or coffee mugs, or perhaps your special china.
A corner sink may seem strange but it’s a very practical way to make use of all the space in your kitchen. You can use the space behind your new sink to store dish washing supplies or add whatever décor you like. You can even use the back corner of the cabinet interior to house your plumbing, which means you’re freeing up extra cabinet storage space too.
When you add drawers to the corner, you’re choosing an option that’s both interesting and unique. You’ll get storage in these 45-degree angles, which makes them perfect for storing small items that fit into these strange angles. For example, seasoning containers or certain cooking utensils.
If you want to use the space more traditionally, then you may want to install a Lazy Susan. They make it simple to get into even the furthest depths of your cabinet simply by taking them for a spin. You can use hinge doors, two double doors, and other options. Reach out to Mission West Kitchen and Bath for customized ideas.
If you don’t like the look of a Lazy Susan, then you may want a more modern alternative – the corner pull-out shelves. They both rotate and slide, which lets you access whatever’s in them easily. Some people use them to store pots, pans, and even small appliances. Essentially, you can use them for large items you don’t typically have room for.
These are just a few ideas on what to do if you have a kitchen with a corner you don’t know how to use. If you’re in the market to redo your kitchen, make sure that our showroom is in your list of spots to visit. At Mission West Kitchen and Bath, you’ll find some truly unique options of high-quality kitchen and bathroom materials.
Many communities across the country have been promoting the idea of shopping locally. This is often through discount weekends with a group of local retailers, signs that encourage community members to “shop local,” and other methods. At Mission West Kitchen and Bath, we couldn’t agree more. We strive to be your one-stop-shop for a wide range of materials for designing or remodeling kitchens and bathrooms.
While many people may already support the idea of shopping local, others see the supposedly lower prices online, or with local big-box stores, and they assume that shopping with them will save them money. As it turns out, this isn’t always true in the long run. Read on to learn more and then give us a call at 626-799-3503 or stop by one of our several showrooms.
If every city across the country had the same chain hardware store, restaurants, malls, etc., then there wouldn’t be much of a difference between them at all. When you think about South Pasadena and what makes us stand out from other cities in the area, what do you think of? It’s likely that a local business would be high on the list of things that come to mind.
Do you want to live in a place where you know your neighbors and can count on them in the event you had an emergency? Or do you want to live in a town where you don’t know anyone? Shopping with local coffee shops, craft stores, and other local spots can actually build unity and community. How? Because they are often home to live music, knitting circles, book clubs, and children’s story hours. These businesses do a lot for the community but they can only stick around if we support them.
It’s not a shock that when you spend money in your community, you’re keeping money in your community but the extent to which this affects you may be a surprise indeed. The American Independent Business Alliance performed a study and found that when a person spends a single dollar at a local business, it results in three times the money going to the local economy compared to spending that same dollar at a chain store.
We know a low price on kitchen cabinetry can be tempting. We also know that buying from a faceless company on the internet, or a big box retailer with inexpert employees, doesn’t generally give consumers much peace of mind. When you choose to work with Mission West Kitchen and Bath, you’re working with a local retailer that’s here when you have questions or concerns.
If you need help deciding what appliances are right for your kitchen, we’re here for you. If you need help with plumbing fixtures, we can help. We have several showrooms so that you can look not at pictures on a screen but the actual plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures, and more. Stop by or give us a call today at 626-799-3503.
There’s a lot to love about a classic, turn of the century home. There’s also a lot to say for the modern conveniences that come with an updated kitchen. With an old, cramped work space, you’ll be less likely to wash and cut produce. You won’t be able to find the room you need to stock up on fresh foods. Cleaning up can seem to take forever with clutter everywhere, which may encourage you to head to the local fast food spot for dinner.
At Mission West Kitchen and Bath, we’ve been helping clients as they shop for kitchen countertops, cabinetry, lighting, and more for many years. In that time, we’ve learned something really special: The more a person loves their kitchen, the more likely they are to use it. Most of us also know that the more a person cooks at home, the more likely they are to heat fresh, healthy foods. Read on to learn more about how kitchen design can impact healthy decisions and then stop by our showrooms or give us a call at 626-799-3503.
Any medical professional is likely to agree that having a variety of foods is an important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In order to have a variety of foods, you need a wealth of kitchen tools – and you need somewhere to put them. For example, if you want to whip up a Thai curry loaded with fresh veggies, you don’t want to have to go through your entire cabinet to find the tiny mortar and pestle that’s there. More kitchen cabinets, and more organization, makes it much more pleasant to whip up a fresh meal.
We live in interesting times when there are some very interesting appliances on the market. For example, products that you can simply speak your grocery list to, fridges that can provide different temperature zones within the same unit, dishwashers that automatically disable themselves if they have a leak, and other internet-connect appliances. If every day cooking becomes a high-tech adventure, you’ll be likely to get involved.
Many people want to cook dinner but when the think about the time it takes to both cook the meal and clean up afterwards, they become overwhelmed. If you want cleanup time to be as easy as possible, stick to smooth glass and metal surfaces. Skip wood and other rough textures that need to be deep cleaned on a regular basis. When you know it’ll just take a few minutes to clean up after dinner, you’ll have one less excuse not to do it.
The bottom line is that if you love the way your kitchen looks and feels, and if you’re able to create a kitchen that’s easy and intuitive to use, then you’ve taken the first step toward a healthier lifestyle. To learn more about the many options in kitchen design, let Mission West Kitchen and Bath guide your way.
When it comes to add lighting to a kitchen, we are proud of the many options available at Mission West Kitchen and Bath. That said, the best electrical lighting acts as an accent for beautiful, natural light. It’s an asset to your kitchen for many reasons: It can improve your mood, reduce your electric bills, and help ensure you get enough Vitamin D. We’ve come up with some options to help you make the most of the natural light in your kitchen.
The first step is to figure out what you have to work with. Obviously, you’ll start with your windows. If you’re thinking of remodeling your kitchen, consider adding larger windows or even adding one where there isn’t one now. Just remember that you need to leave enough wall space for kitchen cabinets and to put your kitchen appliances against.
You may also want to consider adding a skylight – but only if it fits in with the style of your kitchen and the architecture of your home. If your kitchen has an exterior door then you may want to choose one that has more glass. For example, a sliding patio door that’s made entirely of glass, or a hinged door that has a large glass window on top.
You can also take light from other rooms next to the kitchen. This is one of the reasons that an open home plan works well. Your kitchen can enjoy some of the natural sun that your living room or dining room may enjoy.
Make sure you’re choosing the right window coverings that allow plenty of natural light into your kitchen. If you’ve noted that your kitchen is dark, or if you just wish there was more light, then consider swapping out your draperies for light fabrics.
You may also consider adding kitchen cabinets with glass fronts. They won’t bring in more light, but they can help the light to flow through your kitchen more effectively. You’ll want a kitchen that’s balanced as far as windows and cabinets are concerned, but adding glass fronted cabinets are a great way to make the most of light without giving up cabinet space.
Finally, consider that the colors you choose are an important part of how light your room feels. If you choose dark colors, then they’ll absorb the light and the kitchen will look darker in whole. On the other hand, painting or decorating in light colors will actually reflect light. This doesn’t mean your entire kitchen has to be white, but choosing lighter hues can not only help the room look airier, but it can make it look bigger.

Whether you’re excited about designing your perfect kitchen and bathroom, or you’re nervous about the entire experience, it’s important to stay informed. At Mission West Kitchen and Bath, we’ve worked hard to offer you all the materials you need in a single store. We’ve also been in this business long enough to know some of the most common myths that people believe. Read on to learn about them – and the truth – and then reach out to us at 626-799-3503 or stop by our showroom.
If you hire professionals to take care of your remodeling job then you should trust them to do just that. Choose a company that you believe listens to your wants and has planned a room that meets your needs. Then step back and let them do what they need to do. Trying to micromanage will only slow the process down.
We know you want a kitchen or bathroom that’s beautiful – and you should have it. That said, ensuring that it functions the way you need to is more important. For example, if you want a minimalist kitchen so you decide to keep your kitchen cabinets to a minimum, where are you going to put your dishes? What will you do without that extra space? It doesn’t do any good if you love the way it looks but it doesn’t serve a purpose.
This is just flat-out false. In fact, if you’re going to remodel two rooms in your home and you want them to be the ones that will add the most value to your home then the kitchen and bathroom are the rooms to choose. You can expect that the more extensive the remodels are, the more it will add to the value of your home.
Don’t mistake cheap and affordable. Yes, you can find affordable bathroom sinks but this doesn’t mean they’re cheap. It means they’re high quality yet more affordable than other options. Buying quality products will ensure they last longer, look better, work better, and add more value to your home.
It’s true that remodeling a bathroom or kitchen is going to cost more than buying a new couch. However, remember that remodeling a kitchen or bathroom is going to make it much more useful and pleasant to be in. Keep in mind as well that your kitchen makes up between 11 – 18% of the value of your home while the master bath makes up 8 – 14%. Investing in some of the most important rooms in your house can be well worth it.
If you want high quality kitchen and bathroom appliances, fixtures, and more, reach out to Mission West Kitchen and Bath. We offer a huge line of options all in one convenient location.

There’s no question that lighting can make or break a design. Without the right lighting, even the most dazzling of countertops or flooring can look dull. The kitchen requires both lighting to enhance the beauty of the room as well as task lighting to ensure the room is functional. We can help you with both. We have some truly unique options you’ve likely never seen before, as well as classic options. Our goal is to ensure that Mission West Kitchen and Bath is the only place you need to visit for your remodeling project.

Is it time to replace your countertop with a high quality granite countertop? The installation itself is not something we’d recommend that a homeowner does on their own. Fabricating and installing these heavy, incredibly dense countertops should be left to the professionals. That said, you can take care of some of the prep yourself if you want to take part. Read on to learn more and then reach out to Mission West Kitchen and Bath at 626-799-3503 to learn more about our high-quality countertop options.
The first step is to gather everything you need. You’ll likely have a few of these things around the house and the rest can be found at most any hardware store:
Before you begin this step, be sure to turn off the water supply. This can be done at the valves under your sink. Once you’ve turned it off, disconnect the water supply line from the valves. At this point you can remove the drain lines. Make sure you have your bucket handy to trap all the water that’s going to still be in the p-trap.
Now get under the sink and loosen the clamps that are holding the sink to the countertop. There will be more than one and you’ll have to be sure that you loosen each of them. Then grab your putty knife, cut through the seal between the two, and pull the sink out. It’s possible that there won’t be any clamps if the sink itself is very heavy – like a cast-iron sink.
Next, remove and get rid of any appliances under your countertop. From there, get rid of the screws that are holding your counter top in place. You’ll then lift the countertop off your base cabinet. If this doesn’t happen easily, then you may need to grab your pry bar to get it lifted.
Once you’ve removed the countertop, it will be ready for the countertop installation team to measure and get the measurements they need. They may create a wooden template to test out their design and make sure it works for you. They’ll then take the template back to their shop and mark the granite for cutting.
A diamond-bladed bridge saw is used to cut the granite. Once it’s the right size, they’ll use an edge treatment to carve into the stone. Finally, they’ll polish the granite so it’s ready to be installed. At that point, the installation team will come to your home and install it. They’ll use shims to aid them while they adjoin all the pieces and make sure that everything matches up correctly. Their final step will be to apply color fillers and silicone sealant.
Of course, you can let the installation team handle everything. Regardless of your choice for installation, make sure you’re buying your kitchen fixtures and other items from a company that offers the quality you need. Mission West Kitchen and Bath is ready to help you find the perfect, unique pieces you’re looking for.
There are a lot of decisions to make when you’re planning your kitchen or bathroom remodeling project. You’ll need to decide on what type of flooring you want, what type of appliances to install, and color scheme will go best. However, the most important decision you’ll make will be which contractor to work with.
At Mission West Kitchen and Bath, we’re proud of our reputation and the many clients we’ve helped over the years. We want to be sure that every client who chooses us knows exactly how to choose the right contractor for their needs. No matter which kitchen and bath contractor you use, these are the three things you should consider.
Anyone who refers to themselves as a contractor must be licensed. However, you might be surprised by how many companies or individuals will offer to remodel your home without mentioning that they’re not a licensed contractor. A handyperson with a lot of experience can help with many things, but when it comes to installing drywall, helping you select countertops, laying floor, installing your bath fixtures, etc., you need a company or individual who is licensed.
Why? Because a license shows that they’ve completed schooling. It shows that they’ve been tested on the things they claim to know how to do. Most importantly, it shows that they have the experience to provide a high level of work. If you need an attorney, you would turn to someone who’d passed the Bar – not someone who’d simply watched a lot of crime shows. The same applies to construction – turn to a company that can back up their claims.
Any contractor will have experience with construction but do they have experience with the specific type of construction you need help with? For example, when you want your kitchen remodeled, you likely don’t want to work with a company that works exclusively on building garages. As you consider your options, don’t just ask about experience – ask about experience that’s relevant to your project.
You want to shop directly with a company that offers the right type of materials and products. At Mission West Kitchen and Bath, we offer a wide range of cabinets, tiles, bathroom fixtures, appliances, and much more. When you want to shop in a showroom that has everything you need, then you want to work with us.
Why go all over town when you can find everything you want in our showroom? Be sure that your contractor works with a company that can supply all the kitchen and bathroom products you need, from lighting to toilets to beyond. At Mission West Kitchen and Bath, we are ready to be your design experts. Call us today at 626-799-3503 to learn more about your options or stop by our showroom to see for yourself.
Have you been considering remodeling your kitchen but you’re not sure if now is the right time? At Mission West Kitchen and Bath, we believe that as soon as you think about remodeling, it’s time to do so. Read the four reasons you’ll love that you took the plunge to remodel your kitchen and then reach out to us at 626-799-3503.
Has your kitchen begun to deteriorate over the years? Do you have cracked tiles? Have your cabinet doors stopped opening or closing completely? Do you have countertops that are pealing? Do your appliances still work as well as they should? Even if you’re only dealing with one of these issues, it’s a good sign that future problems are on their way. We recommend remodeling before everything deteriorates.
One of the biggest advantages of remodeling your kitchen is that it’s likely to lead to an increase in the value of your home. Not only will the price likely go up, but it’s also a good way to make your home more attractive to buyers. The newer a kitchen is, the more buyers are likely to be interested in your home. Even if you don’t plan to sell your home within the next few years, raising the value of your home could increasing the equity you have in your home.
Do you wish that your utility bills were lower? Do you wish you could reduce the amount of energy your home uses? Remodeling your kitchen can achieve both of those goals. For example, installing a skylight can lead to not needing to use lights during the day. Installing a solar water heater can reduce the amount of energy used to heat water. Of course, energy efficient appliances can make a big difference as well.
If you have an older home that you wished looked more modern, remodeling your kitchen may be one of the best ways to do that. After all, consider walking into a kitchen that’s covered in dark woods and avocado green: You’d immediately associate it with the ‘70s and the entire home would have a dated look. Now imagine walking into a home with granite countertops, brand new track lighting, and stainless steel appliances. This instantly feels more modern and can help the home feel more modern as well.
There’s no question that you need an experienced kitchen remodeling contractor to help you with your project. That’s exactly what you’ve found in Mission West Kitchen and Bath. With years of experience, employees who are passionate about helping create perfect kitchens, and comprehensive services, we are here to help you. Contact us today by calling 626-799-3503 and let’s get started.
